oranges in paddington, sydney
a little late, but happy lunar new year everyone!
pineapple tarts and keropok are incredibly addictive, and i’m missing white rabbit sweets. also love my grandma’s tiger prawns in dark sauce glazed with honey. mmmmmm.
been having a migraine for two days running – such an awful feeling. it’s subsiding now and i hope [...]

Anthropologie Favorites – by girlontheave on Polyvore.com
i’m always gobsmacked by how wonderfully curated anthropologie is, and how the selection never wavers from the store’s vision. this time, i’m eyeing some beautifully breezy, soft and feminine pieces with details – eyelets, ruffles, and lots and lots of bows, in a palette of colors that whisper of the [...]

almond jelly with peach in syrup from shin yeh
one of my new favorite desserts is from a taiwanese restaurant in liang court. it’s simple yet delightful and my favorite part is biting into the delicate looking but surprisingly firm almond jelly. i also like that its not too syrupy which makes it the perfect end to a heavy meal.
apart from this [...]

cute as a button…
mad about macarons from canele patisserie – lemon, bergamote orange, caramel and 70% dark chocolate. sweet creamy ganache sanwiched between light, chewy macaron shells. the first two, in particular, are heavenly.

light as air.
dutch windmill, san francisco and cape meares lighthouse, oregon
pardon the gloomy background – the weather was bad on both occasions. a pity, too, for the 40-mile long three capes scenic loop offers some gorgeous and spectacular views of the oregon coast. nonetheless it’s charming, and awe-inspiring enough to warrant its position high on my list of places to (re)visit.

there is a light that never goes out.
somewhere on the mountain roads/hokey pokey ice-cream in the ice-creamery in kiama/lotus-lookalike plant/rooftops
(btw: hokey-pokey ice-cream is this delightful flavor consisting of plain vanilla with small chunks of honeycomb)
i’m trying to remember what’s it like, to feel a lightness in your heart.

uw campus in winter.
kinda knackered but hopeful. keeping things in perspective and not letting the small things get to me. above all, eating lots of chocolate.

mak’s noodles.
best wanton noodles i’ve ever had in hong kong, served in this small, cramped and traditional noodle shop. it’s humble offerings are non-pretentious, affordable and of good quality… and that’s probably why it’s endeared itself to locals and foreigners alike over the years.
the wanton + sui kau were so fresh and succulent, paired perfectly with the springy noodles. [...]

ohayo kyoto.
kiyomizu-dera, pretty yellow blooms, taxi, piping hot ramen, nijo castle, rice sticks in gion, dainty purple flowers, jr kyoto station
some snippets of my trip to kyoto in june…the important thing to remember while you’re there is not to overwhelm yourself by visiting shrine after shrine. or temple after temple. there are many unesco world heritage [...]

bananas.
these phallic-looking objects threw me off initially when i first saw them from afar at granville island market. (it’d probably get samantha jones started on her innuendos too) anyhow, they turned out to be one of those really specific yet useful items at a kitchen store - banana guards. these are touted to fit 97% of bananas so you [...]

spring in mount baker.
today was my last first day as an undergraduate – got lost in school, as usual. i thought i was late, but i’d read my timetable wrongly and turned up half an hour late. so being this early was new to me. still. i’m not feeling the gravity that my impending graduation [...]
