hakone begonia garden, japan
school starts in about a week or so and i’m starting to freak out. time seems to have whooshed by, as it always does when you’re travelling, busy having fun or doing nothing at all, especially when you’re happy, and the days just seem to blend into one another. i’m not excited [...]

seattle in the summer.
taken while on a ferry returning from bainbridge island.
i’m longing for a beautiful summer day in seattle complete with strawberry smoothies, mix ice-cream (which has sadly closed), a stroll around downtown/alki/greenlake/pike place market, kayaking at the lake, frisbee at the beach, people watching while dining al fresco at a cafe, awesome views of the waterfront/mount rainier, [...]

stumped.
spotted en route to mount rainier.
these tree stumps mar the beautiful landscape, and i wonder what happened to them.

headed for hong kong.
come tomorrow, i’ll be bound for hong kong for a short getaway. these photos were from my previous trip there in july of 2006. i’ve heard that it’s rainy there right now but i’m hoping for some good weather. it’s bustling with people and there’re neon lights flashing everywhere. it’s full of great food, shopping and skyscrapers packed into not alot of space - [...]

kawaii rides.
bicycles are a popular mode of transport in japan and it’s refreshing to see some bright doses of color on these bikes in kyoto. i love, especially, the first one, which i found parked outside the starbucks at my hotel - it’s spotty, sleek and awfully chic!

where to buy the best of everything.
i wish i discovered this book earlier! and also, suzy gershman’s born to shop series. i’m sure it would have been most helpful especially in new york city and tokyo. consolidating a list of the best shops around the globe is a brilliant concept, i think, and i would love to have her job. it’s a combination of what [...]

get up and go.
somewhere outside a hair salon in omotesando, tokyo
i’ve alot of things going on lately which explains why i haven’t exactly written much about my trip, but i hope to, soon. there’s three weeks left of the summer holiday and i haven’t exactly gotten much accomplished in terms of gre prep so this week i’m gonna [...]

parasols.
restless but staying indoors on a typically humid weekday.
whipped up some potato and mushroom gratin for lunch, courtesy of Nigella Express (a great cookbook, by the way, laden with lovely snaps of her tempting, easy-to-make creations)
watched a repeat of the epic Wimbledon final from the fifth set onwards because i’d a bad headache at 3am and was extremely edgy from [...]

clutter…
the most orderly grown orchids i’ve ever seen, in ginza.
is an oft lamented and inevitable part of (my) life. over the years i’ve gotten ruthless and disciplined when it comes to streamlining my belongings but somehow things just find a way of accumulating especially when i get busy. so on the rare occasion that i [...]

the fullness of nothingness.
sake barrels at the meiji jingu shrine, tokyo
not having a schedule has been doing me good. the days seem to stretch out much more, time strolls by with a leisurely pace and i seem to get more done. i unpacked my luggage surprisingly fast this time round, and have mostly been alternating between reading, studying for [...]

this made my heart flutter…
window shopping at louis vuitton in ginza
wedges of sweet cotton candy pink laced subtly with gold, topped by enamelled butterflies.
t’was love at first sight.
