maine lobster bisque, artichoke hearts, prime porterhouse with steak house fries and sauteed mushrooms
the iconic metropolitan grill is one of seattle’s best-loved restaurant/steakhouses, having won many accolades for its prime beef and playing host to many a celebrity, sports star, politician, investment banker and clients of microsoft’s top brass.
it is the quintessential classic steakhouse, stately and elegant with its mahogany doors and tables, plush comfy booths, carpeted floors, and the affable and attentive tuxedo-wearing maitre d’s. the whole atmosphere there and the ambience created leaves you expecting some fine food, and clearly it didn’t disappoint.
the soup was creamy, flavorful and not too satiating that is common of cream-based soups. i am generally not into artichokes but this one was crunchy and for once i didn’t dislike it. on to the steak proper (and i’m gonna be full of superlatives here but i think it is deserving), it was one of the best steaks i’ve had, or possibly the best, done almost to perfection - extremely tender, well-marinated and juicy. loved also the sauteed mushrooms – their juices were seeping into the beef, enhancing its flavor even further. and as usual, i was addicted to the steak fries but even so, this was chewy, delicious and its taste wasn’t overpowered by salt.
for its fabulous steak, excellent service and lovely ambience, the met grill is definitely worth the splurge and a cut above the rest.
